Grinder · Science Brewing, Halmstad
Whole beans in the brewer, weighed to the right dose
In short: Science Brewing Grinder is grind-by-weight for batch brew and filter coffee. It grinds whole beans straight into the filter and stops at the right weight, for every pot and every airpot. The touch screen means anyone on the staff gets it right every time.

For those who know whole beans make better coffee
Freshly ground coffee tastes of more than pre-ground. Most people who serve batch brew know that. What has been missing is a fully automatic solution for the brewer: instead, coffee is measured with a scoop, or ground in advance for the whole day.
Grinder is a grinder and a scale in one. You place the filter in the holder, tap, and it grinds whole beans until the weight is reached. No pre-ground coffee, no scoop, no guessing.

Anyone gets it right, every time
The touch screen shows only the choices you have set. Name them after what you brew:
| Choice on the screen | Dose |
|---|---|
| Pot | 60 g |
| Airpot | 125 g |
| Large airpot | 225 g |
Or just a single choice, so there is nothing to get wrong. Names and weights are changed from the web app, and whoever stands at the grinder does not need to know anything about coffee.
- Place the filter in the holder on the scale.
- Tap what you are brewing. With auto-start on, just putting the filter down is enough.
- The grinder grinds and stops at the weight.
- Put the filter in the brewer.

How accurate it is
The scale reads to 0.1 g. For brewing doses the grinder runs in fast mode and stops within a couple of grams of the target. For small doses there is a precision mode that tops up with short pulses and ends within a few tenths of a gram.
Why dose and grind matter so much in batch brew, with sources and calculations: Grinding and extraction in batch brew.
Fresh in every dose
Coffee left standing in the grinder between grinds goes stale. If it has been longer than the time you choose, from 30 minutes to 48 hours, the grinder first grinds a small amount for you to discard. It can also be set to keep that amount and carry on grinding.

Connected
The grinder runs on Wi-Fi and is linked to your organisation in the Science Brewing web app with a six-digit code shown on the screen.
| Feature | What you get |
|---|---|
| Choices remotely | Name, weight, mode, auto-start and freshness time are changed from the web app |
| Grind setting | The recommended setting is sent along and shown on the screen. The burrs are adjusted by hand |
| Log | Time, choice, target weight and actual weight for every grind |
| Stock | Every grind is deducted from your roasted coffee stock, with an alert when it starts running low |
| Updates | New software is installed over the network |
If the grinder loses its connection it keeps grinding. The grinds are stored in the grinder and sent when the network is back.
If you roast yourselves on Science Brewing Roaster, the roasted coffee goes into the same stock, so consumption and roasting are visible in one place.
Do you run a roastery?
Place Grinder with your café customers. You see consumption and stock per customer, and know who is about to run out before they do.
Frequently asked questions
Does the grinder need internet?
Not to grind. Profiles, log and stock need a connection, but grinds made without network are stored in the grinder and sent when the network is back.
Does the base platform fit my grinder?
It depends on the model. Tell us which grinder you have before you order, and we will answer.
Can we sell freshly ground coffee in bags?
Yes. Add a choice for the bag, for example 250 g, and the grinder grinds one bag at a time.
Who can see our consumption?
You, in your organisation in the web app. If you got the grinder through your roastery, the roastery also sees stock and consumption, so they can deliver on time.
