Ethiopia Yirgacheffe G1 Broad bean

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere Washed Coffee is a single origin premium coffee bean from Kochere, southwest of Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia. This coffee is grown at an altitude of 1800-2000 meters above sea level and processed in the village, or “kebele,” Kore, located in the Kochere district. The small village of Ch’elelek’tu in the Gedeo zone is located near Kochere, which is southwest of the town of Yirgacheffe.

Region
Bonde Kochere tvättstation, belägen på hög höjd i Yirgacheffe-regionen, sysselsätter cirka 650 småbrukare under skördesäsongen och har 300 upphöjda bäddar för torkning av kaffet. De lokala arvsvarianterna som förs till stationen odlas i sandig, bördig jord, rik på organiskt material. The high altitudes, climate, local heritage varieties and sandy, fertile soils result in an incredibly delicate, citrusy and bright cup profile from this washing station year after year. The contributing farmers are all registered and part of the Kerchanshe support network established by Israel Degfa. This network helps smallholder farmers and their families with access to healthcare, education and agricultural support.

The process
Shade-grown, ripe coffee berries are delivered to the mill for careful sorting, to select only the ripest. The berries are dried in the sun on raised African beds for about 12-15 days. During the day, they are regularly raked and turned to ensure an even drying process; covered between 12 and 3 pm to protect them from sun damage and at night to protect them from rain and moisture. Once the coffee has dried to the right level, it is carefully ground, graded, sorted and hand-picked.
